I didn’t Chernobyl the bread so much this time cause my roommates weren’t excited about me burning the toast like I did last time. Something about smoky homes, etc. This is my third batch, and the recipe I’ve been using:
I’ve become a pretty big fan of Life of Boris in the last month. Triggered of course by this:
I’ve actually done quite a few of his recipes. I had blin for breakfast this morning with ham, cheese, and mayonez I made yesterday. I’ve also brought his Russian potato salad to a potluck and got some decent compliments. Going to the store later to pick up the remaining ingredients to make cheeki breeki chebureki tomorrow:
But watching that Niva repeatedly made me want to get mine back on the road again, so I’ve dropped my mirrors off to get new glass cut, then it’ll be off to get an inspection so I can find out how many things are wrong with it that don’t matter but Alberta’s a silly place so I’ll need to fix them anyway.
Gopnik wheels spotted on the BC Gambler 500 for your time. Big fan of this car for sure.

Life of Boris is one of the best channels out there.
I made blin back in December using his recipe.

They’re pretty good. They came out a lot like my dad’s pancakes, not the generic fluffy ones you see everywhere. His family was somewhat Scandinavian in origin, possibly some Slavic influence there I guess.

Can’t stop laughing.
You’re not even actually Russian, are you?
I’ve just recently discovered kvas-making and kvas-drinking as an activity for mother-son bonding with my elderly mom. But we use a mix, bought on Ebay and shipped from Russia.
Chebureki are awesome. I always think of them as Russian empanadas. They are Central Asian in origin. There’s an amazing Georgian (the country, not the state) deli in San Francisco that makes them.
Language tip: Bliny is the plural and the more usual form. Blin is a valid word for a singular pancake, but is usually used as a soundalike euphemism for blad, like the “suka blad” that everybody seems to know.

I read that blin-oo. I took six credits of Russian in university. But no, I ain’t Russian. Maybe a little, with some ethnically German ancestry who’d been living in Russia prior to ww2, but functionally, no.
The chebureki were very good. This is a good reminder I need to filter and fridge the kvass. Just finished the last batch, it seems to get better the longer I leave in fridge.

For singular I’d say blinchik, but I’m entirely a seat of the pants Russian speaker.
What’s up fellow descendant of ethnic Germans in Russia. You, me, and Lawrence Welk, apparently.
There’s probably a limit for how long homemade kvas can stay in the fridge but it seems ok after one week.
Oy blin!
